@sophiabush : On the subject of lessening our impact on the planet by reevaluating our relationship to stuff — see yesterday’s #FashionOurFuture post — I think we need to talk about how and where we source the things we surround ourselves with, in addition to the how and where pertaining to what we put on our bodies. My sister friend @stacylondonreal and her new project @small_beautiful_things_ny are helping to center this in my mind and in my feed. This could be top of mind for me as I just finished a huge home renovation project (hiiii @elledecor @whowhatwhit), or perhaps because I’ve been shopping for magical trinkets for folks I love for Valentines and weddings and birthdays and housewarmings. Then there’s holidays and anniversary’s and the list goes on! You know, the things that are joyous, but constant on the calendar. But whatever it is, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by all of the STUFF being made and marketed out there, and much of it ends up in sale bins and at outlets because we just don’t buy it all. Nor do we need to. And we all know that our dollars are our daily votes. So if we shop differently, if we shift patterns of consumption, the market will shift too. We can change it for the better! And what’s better than filling our homes and spoiling our loved ones with things that are made to last?! That have stories and souls and history!? Stacy is a fashion icon, but also happens to be a tastemaker and power-hunter in the home space. She started curating a selection of vintage items and collectibles and jewelry that is SO jaw-dropping and magical that I can’t manage to keep my pulse from racing every time I get near her shop. And NOW it’s online for everyone. More than just being a resource for timeless pieces trinkets that will become heirlooms, the @small_beautiful_things_ny page is an education about craftsmanship and era specific design. It’s become my favorite resource for all things precious, timeless, romantic, nostalgic, and just plain CHIC. So we can #Decor
