@mattmcgorry : As white people, we cannot JUST be against the MOST egregious forms of white supremacy, such as white terrorists murdering Black people. We live in a CULTURE of white supremacy. We are all swimming in it, learning from it in the most subtle ways EVERY SINGLE DAY. From the fact that the white man who killed #NiaWilson will not be called a terrorist, but a Brown man who kills white people will be seen as such by default. White folks...if you are not noticing racism every single day, then you have normalized it. Which means that you will also perpetuate it despite your best intentions. The most egregious acts of white supremacy happen because “well meaning” white folks refuse to take on anti-racism as our fight. Remember, racism does not require that we actively hate People or Color for it to persist. It only requires that we don’t care enough to listen from and learn from anti-racist activists of color. That we don’t make it an ABSOLUTE PRIORITY in our lives to work on ourselves, put ourselves in uncomfortable situations, and put our bodies in the way of the inertia of hundreds of years of cultural and systemic racism. If you don’t know what some of the forms of white supremacy are on this pyramid, then Google them. Read articles (or better yet books) from POC who have written about them. Share those resources with other white people in your life. And then examine and interrupt how they show up in your own life and all around you. That is what we must do, if we are white people intent on ending racism. It is the only way. # Repost from @sonyareneetaylor - “earlier this week i shared a pyramid of white supremacy.
