Now that you’ve conquered bread-making at home, we’ve got a weekend project for you. If your go-to loaf of bread is fluffy white bread, this milk bread recipe has your name written all over. It's light as air with a slight sweetness. This pillowy soft, sandwich bread (shokupan) is a beloved breakfast staple in Japan and is typically eaten sliced very thick, lightly toasted, and served with accompaniments like butter and jam. Looking for a good weekend read? In our April issue, @marthastewart48 creates a spectacular cake for Easter—and shares how you can learn to do the same, too. "When I began thinking about Easter this year, I wanted to create a new twist on that cake, and worked with Living food editors @shirabocar and @lucullanfoods to plot a design based on my Bedford farm in spring. We would re-create the old spruce fencing that edges the paddocks, the drifts of daffodils, the gravel path that runs between my clipped boxwood hedging, and, to play up the holiday, add colored eggs to represent my annual Easter-egg hunt. The cake is deliciously tender, flavored with orange zest and almonds and frosted with a light buttercream." - Martha. "The house already had such great details and architecture—we wanted to play with that, but not get too literal and give it its own personality," interior designer @braunadams says of this San Francisco four-bed, four-bath home in a waterfront neighborhood. The designer also incorporated her own signature style—mixing modern and traditional motifs with a touch of the bohemian—throughout the space, using statement-making rugs and bold wallpaper to drive the rest of the color palette. Among her favorite details? "The arched windows were killer here. Also, the staircase that was original to the house. Both tied in with the beautiful arches and curves throughout the space," she adds. Check out the full tour of the renovated space at the link in bio. 👆🏼📷: @johnmerkl

Sometimes a few humble pantry-friendly ingredients are all you need to whip up a delicious weeknight dinner. This 25-minute pasta uses ingredients you're almost always likely to have in your kitchen. Olive oil and garlic go into a cold pan and warm up together to let their flavors meld and infuse. Then pasta water gets tossed in—not just for a splash of liquid, but to become part of the sauce and stop the garlic from getting darker. Add a little fresh chile, toss in the noodles to coat, grate some Parmesan on top, and you have an easy dinner in the bowl. When you’re planning weeknight dinners, sometimes you’re forced to choose between recipes that are easy vs. nutritious. With this pork tenderloin with kale salad, you’re guaranteed both. The salad is prepared and left to marinate in the dressing, which ensures crunchy—not tough—greens (thanks to the tenderizing effects of the olive oil). Meanwhile, a super-simple pork tenderloin is seared and baked, along with earthy sweet potatoes and nutty quinoa that both are tossed into the salad before serving. Classic sugar cookies take baking back to basics. But in their simplicity lies their perfection: It's hard to beat the delicate flavor of cookies with only the most elemental of ingredients. In our September issue, @marthastewart48 takes us inside the cabbage patch at her Bedford gardens. Growing up enjoying cabbage in the classic Polish dishes her mother and grandmothers cooked; now our founder grows about a dozen varieties of the vegetable on her farm. “Our vegetable plot in Nutley always had large, hard white cabbages—Mom's pick for pierogi—and the plain green ones she used for her gołabki. When I started my own garden, I planted a range of different kinds to try in the kitchen.” - Martha. Let our shaken piña colada transport you to paradise. 🌴 Senior food editor @lucullanfoods' recipe maintains the flavor profile of a traditional piña colada with rum, pineapple, and coconut but lightens things up considerably. It calls for just one ounce each of cream of coconut and coconut milk, so you still get a hint of richness, plus lots of nice body. It’s also shaken, not blended, which eliminates the possibility of separation, which happens often with frozen piña coladas. So go ahead, whip up a batch, sit back and relax (preferably poolside) and soak in the flavors of summer. Grab the recipe at the link in bio!👆🏼📷: @bryangardnerphotography

When we lose a pet, we're left with memories and a few of their personal possessions. Creating a memory capsule in a bell jar is a beautiful way to memorialize your beloved pet. We chose a 7-inch jar and kept it simple by sticking with just a few special items: collar, dog tags, and a leather silhouette. The silhouette can be made from any material (cut paper is traditional), but we went with leather. At @marthastewart48’s home, arrangements don’t stop at just dozens of blooms. Some even boast a hundred! Here’s the story behind her larger-than-life arrangement of fresh lilies. “About 100 stems of lilies grown on my farm in Bedford were just arranged in the great hall of Skylands by none other than @seenbysharkey. We transported the cut lilies by truck to Maine to fill the house with unsurpassed scent and beauty!” - Martha. Carry drinks to the patio on a madras-lined tray, and you'll feel like you're on vacation. 🍹 Measure and cut fabric to fit the bottom, then brush the tray with matte découpage sealant and place the fabric on top. Press gently to adhere and leave for 15 minutes, then do a top coat and let it dry. Master everyone's favorite summer side dish with our test kitchen team's smart techniques, featured in our July/August issue. Their secret to the best pasta salad? Short, curly noodles! They leave room for other ingredients in every forkful, and the grooves hold the dressing and herbs. Be sure to boil them for the longest duration listed on the package, since they won't continue to cook in piping-hot sauce as they would in warm dishes. Grab the recipe for this pasta salad with tomatoes, mozzarella, and chickpeas and two other delicious renditions (featured in our July/August issue) at the link in bio. 📷: @ren_fuller | recipe + food styling by: Lauryn Tyrell | prop styling by: @suzie_myers

A madras tablecloth can set a cozy scene for your table setting that’s both classic and charming. Creating one just involves a quick, straight-line stitch: Buy enough yardage to allow for about six inches of overhang, then zip the edges through sewing machine to hem them. Here’s a fresh #meatlessmonday idea for dinner this week! This colorful stuffed pepper recipe uses the grill in two different ways; direct heat to grill the peppers, then indirect heat to cook some of the stuffing ingredients—couscous, tomato, and raisins—in a skillet for the stuffing. Once stuffed the peppers are cooked through in the same pan on top of the grill. Grab this recipe (and more vegetarian grilling recipes) at the link in bio. 👆🏼📷: @armandorafaelphotography

Don't toss out any leftover fabric; use it to dress up a summer hat or a bag! 👒 Snip scrap into a square, and fray the edges by gently pulling few loose threads. Then tuck it into a basket, which you can carry as a purse or chic lunch bag. To customize sun hat (or tote, or keychain, or suitcase handle), fold over a narrow length of fabric and hem the unfolded edge, fray the ends, and tie it on like a ribbon. Just like that, you'll be able to spot your stuff in seconds at the neighborhood pool—or airport baggage claim.
